🌏 ‘참 나를 찾아 떠나는 여행 II’ 두 번째 강연

2026년 3월 10일 동국대학교 본관 남산홀에서 특별 교양 강좌 ‘참 나를 찾아 떠나는 여행 II’의 두 번째 강연이 열렸습니다. 이번 강연에는 덴마크와 프랑스 대사를 역임한 재단법인 기후변화센터 최재철 이사장님을 초청하여 「기후위기와 불확실성 시대에 빛나는 녹색 복지 국가 덴마크의 비결」을 주제로 강연을 진행했습니다.

강연에서 최 이사장님은 인류가 직면한 세 가지 환경 위기인 기후변화(Climate Change), 오염(Pollution), 생물다양성 손실(Biodiversity Loss)을 언급하며 기후 위기의 심각성을 설명했습니다. 또한 1981년 외무고시 합격 이후 약 40여 년간 외교 현장에서 활동하며 환경 외교 분야를 개척해 온 경험을 학생들과 공유했습니다.

특히 칼 붓세(Karl Busse)의 시 「저 산 너머 행복」을 소개하며, 막연한 동경을 좇기보다 자신이 진정으로 원하는 길을 꾸준히 걸어갈 때 결국 그 분야의 전문가가 될 수 있다는 메시지를 전했습니다. 이러한 조언은 외교관이나 공공 분야를 꿈꾸는 학생들에게 큰 공감을 얻었습니다.

강연의 핵심은 지속가능한 사회 모델로서의 덴마크 사례였습니다. 덴마크는 1970년대 오일쇼크 당시 에너지의 90% 이상을 수입 원유에 의존하고 있었지만, 이를 계기로 풍력 중심의 에너지 전환을 추진하며 녹색 성장 국가로 자리 잡았습니다. 현재 덴마크는 세계적인 풍력 터빈 기업 베스타스(Vestas) 등을 중심으로 친환경 산업을 선도하고 있습니다.

또한 덴마크 사회의 특징으로 유연안정성(Flexicurity) 노동 모델과 높은 사회적 신뢰가 소개되었습니다. 노동 시장의 유연성과 동시에 실업급여와 재교육을 통한 안정적인 사회 안전망을 갖춘 제도를 통해 보편적 복지를 실현하고 있다는 점이 강조되었습니다.

이와 함께 덴마크 사회의 행복을 설명하는 문화적 가치인 **‘휘게(Hygge)’**와 공동체 중심의 사회 정신도 소개되었습니다. 일상의 소소한 행복과 공동체적 여유를 중시하는 휘게 문화와 서로를 존중하는 사회적 분위기가 높은 행복 지수를 가능하게 하는 중요한 배경이라고 설명했습니다.

강연 후 이어진 질의응답에서 최 이사장님은 기후위기 시대에 필요한 역량으로 환경 감수성과 공동체적 행동을 강조했습니다. 개인의 실천도 중요하지만 사람들이 함께 행동할 때 더 큰 변화를 만들어낼 수 있다고 말했습니다. 지막으로 “젊은 세대와 이렇게 대화하는 이 시간이 바로 나의 휘게입니다.”라는 말로 강연을 따뜻하게 마무리했습니다.

이번 강연은 기후위기 시대를 살아가는 우리가 어떤 사회를 만들어가야 할지 함께 고민해보는 의미 있는 시간이었습니다.

🌏 “A Journey to Find My True Self II” – Second Lecture

On March 10, 2026, the second lecture of the special liberal arts series “A Journey to Find My True Self II” was held at Namsan Hall in Dongguk University’s Main Building.

For this session, Chairman Choi Jai-chul of the Climate Change Center Foundation, who previously served as the Ambassador to Denmark and France, was invited to deliver a lecture titled “The Secret Behind Denmark, a Shining Green Welfare State in an Age of Climate Crisis and Uncertainty.”

During the lecture, Chairman Choi explained the severity of the climate crisis by highlighting the three major environmental crises facing humanity today: climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss. He also shared his experience of working in diplomacy for about 40 years since passing the foreign service examination in 1981, and spoke about how he helped pioneer the field of environmental diplomacy.

In particular, he introduced Karl Busse’s poem “Happiness Beyond the Mountain,” using it to convey the message that rather than chasing vague ideals from afar, one should steadily follow the path one truly desires. In doing so, a person can eventually become an expert in that field. This advice resonated deeply with students aspiring to careers in diplomacy or public service.

A central focus of the lecture was Denmark as a model of a sustainable society. During the oil shocks of the 1970s, Denmark depended on imported crude oil for more than 90 percent of its energy supply. However, in response to this crisis, the country pursued an energy transition centered on wind power and successfully established itself as a leader in green growth. Today, Denmark stands at the forefront of eco-friendly industry through global wind turbine companies such as Vestas.

The lecture also highlighted key features of Danish society, including its flexicurity labor model and its high level of social trust. Chairman Choi emphasized that Denmark has achieved universal welfare through a system that combines labor market flexibility with a strong social safety net, including unemployment benefits and retraining opportunities.

In addition, he introduced “Hygge,” a cultural value often associated with Danish happiness, as well as Denmark’s strong sense of community. He explained that Hygge—an appreciation for life’s small joys, comfort, and togetherness—along with a social atmosphere grounded in mutual respect, provides an important foundation for the country’s high level of happiness.

During the Q&A session that followed, Chairman Choi stressed that in the age of climate crisis, what we need most are environmental awareness and collective action. While individual efforts matter, he noted that much greater change can be achieved when people act together.

He concluded the lecture warmly by saying, “This time spent talking with the younger generation is my Hygge.”

This lecture offered a meaningful opportunity to reflect together on what kind of society we should build as we live through an era of climate crisis.

2026年3月10日，在东国大学本馆南山厅举行了特别通识讲座《寻找自我的旅行Ⅱ》的第二场讲演。本次讲座邀请到曾任丹麦和法国大使、现任气候变化中心基金会理事长的崔在哲先生，以《在气候危机与不确定性时代中闪耀的绿色福利国家丹麦的秘诀》为主题进行了演讲。

在讲座中，崔理事长提到人类当前面临的三大环境危机——气候变化（Climate Change）、环境污染（Pollution）以及生物多样性丧失（Biodiversity Loss），并说明了气候危机的严重性。同时，他还与学生们分享了自己自1981年通过韩国外务高等考试后，在外交一线工作约40年的经历，尤其是开拓环境外交领域的宝贵经验。

他特别介绍了卡尔·布塞(Karl Busse)的诗作《山那边》，并借此传达了一个信息：与其追逐遥远的憧憬，不如坚定地走在自己真正想走的道路上，长期坚持，最终便能成为该领域的专家。这一建议引起了许多立志从事外交或公共领域工作的学生的强烈共鸣。

本次讲座为大家提供了一个共同思考的机会：在气候危机的时代，我们究竟应该建设怎样的社会。
